CELEBRATE MEDICARE'S 46TH ANNIVERSARY
AND HELP MAKE IT MEDICARE-FOR-ALL

Colorado Springs, CO - July 30th marks the 46th anniversary of
Medicare, a publicly-funded health insurance system that covers almost
everyone over 65. The Colorado Springs chapter of Health Care for All
Colorado is holding a press conference and birthday celebration to
highlight how improved Medicare-for-all, not cuts to our vital social
service programs, is the solution to our health and fiscal crisis.

WHAT: Medicare 46th Anniversary Press Conference and Birthday Party
WHEN: Friday, July 29, 2011 from 12:00 noon - 1:00 PM
WHERE: Colorado Springs Senior Center, 1514 N. Hancock Avenue,
Colorado Springs, CO 80903
WHO: Guest speakers include health care professionals and providers,
advocates for seniors, vulnerable populations, and health care justice
Medicare's passage in 1965 was a milestone in the struggle to provide
affordable health care to all. Today, Medicare, Social Security and
Medicaid are under attack by Republicans and Democrats alike. They
can succeed if we fail to come together.

"At this time, spending cuts further weaken our already weak economy,"
said Dennis Apuan, former Colorado State Representative and event
organizer. "Spending cuts must take second place. Tax increases on
corporations and wealthy households will have the least impact on the
fragile economy. Only when people are back at work, and the economy
is strong, will we be able to get the deficit under control," he
added.

The Colorado Springs chapter of Health Care for All Colorado is also
reaching out to all grassroots organizations and concerned citizens
who fight for health justice, health rights, and improved Medicare for
all.

The public is invited to this celebration and will feature guest
speakers, a Medicare Birthday Cake, and refreshments. Organizers will
also have an information table where people can send postcards
addressed to members of Congress that say, "Medicare: The Solution,
Not the Problem" or sign a petition.

The local event is one of over 30 similar activities happening across
the country celebrating Medicare's 46th birthday anniversary on that
weekend.
